The Tax Gapsubmitted on 2004-10-10 by shawn

The George W. Bush administration has done more damage to the solvency of America than any other President. On his watch, we have a budget deficit that is spiralling out of control. His failure to secure Iraq early has turned the entire region into a costly mess that we cannot afford to immediately withdraw from.

At the same time, Bush criticized John Kerry for providing a domestic plan that would take care of Americans at home, restoring services and dispelling away the well-founded fear that is the true enemy of entrepeneurism: the fear that the government will stand by or assist in your financial downfall.

Nearly every family in America is one personal disaster away from irreversible ruin. For most, the threat is from health care, where an illness can wipe out a life savings. The government can help, but the Bush Administration just gave the pharmaceutical companies a huge check. Where was the tax gap then?

With war overseas and the American economy in peril, the Bush Administration continues to give tax cuts to the very richest Americans. Where is the tax gap?

With wars on drugs and crime, not to mention a virtual war against recession, the Bush Administration continues to fight the wrong battles and take money from where it can best be used: stopping problems while they are small. Instead, we're delaying the day when we'll have to undertake real, more expensive efforts to fix the problems we're creating today. Yet the Bush Administration decided to send $300 checks to every taxpayer. Where was the tax gap then?

Where is the mind of the President when he thinks that he can tell Americans that the government can't afford to help them because they aren't rich enough? The only solution to the tax gap is to remove the friends of extra-big business and the ultra-wealthy.

The removal starts at the top, and John Kerry will make sure that America generates the revenue needed to win its wars, at home and abroad.
